Short Description

Those working in middle management nursing roles should welcome this educational opportunity to learn about practical management skills. It is designed as a combination of theory and interactive learning sessions. Topics include: leadership essentials, effective communications with staff, team work characteristics and how to manage behaviour and work performance.

Objectives

There will be six topic sessions:

1. Sick of Trying to Fix the Unfixable?

2. Is Leader a Manager and is a Manager Automatically a Leader?

3. "But I thought you told me to..." Saying What you Mean and Meaning What You Say

4. "Let's Pull Together Here..."

5. How Not to be Intimidated by Those Forceful People.

6. Managing Behaviours & Performance.

Each topic will involve problem solving and will use a program logic framework to help you work through the issues. This will enable you to practise your skills over the two days when working on scenarios in a workshop group.

In each session you will receive 45-60 minutes of ‘hard core’ theory about the topic. This will be followed by 30 minutes group discussion where you can learn from each other. What works and what doesn’t work and why. Finally, there will be another 30 minute session where results from the workshop will be shared between groups.
