Nurses

General Description

Ausmed invites nurses who have already attended the basic management of adult diabetes seminar, or those who have a thorough working knowledge of diabetes management, to register for this advanced program. Learn about advanced nursing care of this complex and potentially devastating disease.

If you have identified a professional need to advance your understanding of diabetes as part of your planned learning activities, then this program will offer you an opportunity to gain continuing professional development (CPD) hours related to this topic.

Need for Program

As the incidence of diabetes continues to increase worldwide, there is a growing need for well-educated professionals whose role is to care for people with this complex chronic illness. Nurses, who are ideally situated to care for people with this disease, need to be up-to-date in current and advanced evidence-based nursing skills relating to this pervasive disease. They need access to ongoing, relevant, high quality education.

Nurses are required to obtain a minimum of 20 continuing professional development (CPD) hours, that relate to their context of practice, in order to comply with mandatory regulatory requirements.

Aims and Objectives

The aim of this program is to teach nurses, who do not have qualifications in diabetes education, advanced knowledge and skills relating to the care and management of an adult with diabetes mellitus.

At the conclusion of this program, it is that the participant will be able to:

  • Have considerably enhanced insight into the lived experience of a person who has a diagnosis of diabetes mellitus.
  • Demonstrate an advanced understanding of the underlying pathophysiology of diabetes.
  • Demonstrate an advanced understanding of the role of modern diabetes medicines in regulating blood glucose
