For new and experienced nurse managers

General Description

Managing staff in any setting can be challenging and it is important that new and experienced managers have the training and skills needed to successfully cope in these roles. This seminar is specifically tailored to nurse managers and the types of issues and problems that they will encounter. It covers the basics of management, leadership and communication, and will give attendees an invaluable insight into their own management style and preferences. This knowledge will then be used to discuss in more detail the important tasks of team management, performance management and identifying and dealing with different personality types.

Need for Program

For many nurses, the progression from a clinical to a managerial role will involve a substantial commitment to learning a completely new skillset. With undergraduate programs overwhelmingly biased towards achieving clinical competence, it is critical that new nurse managers seek out opportunities to acquire relevant and practical training on issues such as conflict resolution, team dynamics, performance management and advanced problem solving. Understanding of these issues is necessary for everyday management and a practical understanding of their correct application will have a direct impact upon the overall performance of the workplace team.
