General Description

The Medicare 4 Year Old Health Check is a one day seminar specifically designed for General Practice Nurses. The program has been revised to reflect recent medicare changes.


Need for Program

GP Nurses are able to conduct a variety of early childhood examinations, including the 'Medicare 4 Year Old Health Check'. General Practice Nurses therefore have a need for education on the effective and correct methods for conducting this examination in their community.


Aims and Objectives

To enable GP Nurses to correctly conduct 4 Year Old Health Checks in their workplaces.


This program will also examine the following topics:

  • Using PEDS and interpreting the scores.
  • Brigance screens - secondary developmental screening Injury prevention and exposure to tobacco smoke.
  • Administrative issues for a Practice Nurse.
  • Obtaining the health history including immunisation, height and weight assessment, calculating BMI, Eyesight and hearing screening, Oral health check.
  • Developmental screening - Parental Evaluation of Developmental Status (PEDS).
  • Allergies, anaphylaxis and epipen.



9.00am -  Introduction and overview of program.

9.20am - Obtaining the health history including immunisation, height & weight assessment, calculating BMI, Eyesight & hearing screening, Oral health check.

10.30am - Morning tea and coffee.

10.50am - Developmental screening – Parental Evaluation of Developmental Status (PEDS).

12.20pm - Lunch.

12.50pm - Using PEDS and interpreting the scores.

1.50pm - Brigance screens – secondary developmental screening Injury prevention & exposure to tobacco smoke.

2.20pm - Allergies, anaphylaxis and epipens.

3.00pm - Afternoon tea and coffee.

3.20pm - Administrative issues for Practice Nurses.

4.30pm - Close of Program.
