How young women are perceived within our culture, and issues of objectification of women’s sexuality are discussed at length. This lecture provides a comprehensive review and exploration of research findings from the longitudinal research project entitled ‘Life Chances Study’. The study began in 1990, the year in which the 138 participants were born, and highlights the impact of socio-economic disadvantage over their life-time. The most recent report ‘Turning 18 – Pathways and Plans’ (2010) presents the lives of the participants - as 18 year olds- when they left school and sought further training or work.
