Description
This lecture provides practical tips for the rapid assessment and management of a person with head trauma. A classification of head injuries is provided and resuscitation procedures are discussed. There is a brief review of anatomy and physiology as it applies to the description of common head traumas. Signs and symptoms of brain injury are provided. The lecturer demonstrates how a minor head trauma can rapidly become a life threatening condition, emphasising how vital accurate assessment is for this complex area of practice.

Speaker
Jenni Ward has a long trauma nursing background, which includes over 20 years in the Australian Army Reserve. Her clinical and teaching skills include special expertise in the initial resuscitation and trauma management of patients sustaining multiple injuries. Jenni has a Master of Health Science (Nursing) qualification and is member of the College of Emergency Nursing, the Australian College of Emergency Nursing (NSW), the Society of Trauma Nurses and the Australasian Trauma Society. Jenni currently works in Trauma Service.
