Description

This lecture discusses how midwives can incorporate knowledge of, and respect for differing ways of interpreting and working with Asian women during the continuum of child birth. Information is provided on reproductive health in particular child birth issues and the post-partum period for Asian women. The social construction of the birth experience is discussed and accounts of Mong women’s experiences are utilised to clarify Asian women’s differing perspectives and expectations of the pregnancy, birth and motherhood experiences experience.

Speaker

Professor Pranee Liamputtong of the School of Public Health, La Trobe University, is a renowned medical anthropologist whose interests include the health of immigrants and refugees, and women's sexual and reproductive health. She is the editor of the well-reviewed book entitled “Asian Mothers – Australian Birth.”
