Description

This session provides an overview of the role of beds in the incidents of falls within health care facilities. The use of bedrails is discussed and the concept of restraint is explored. Guidelines for the safe use of beds, side rails and related equipment are provided. Research and studies are referred too extensively to support this discussion. Useful suggestions are provided for the use of this equipment for patients who are acutely ill within the community and in private homes.

The main concepts explored in this session are:

  1. Nursing care – equipment – useful for a confused patient
  2. Falls within health care facilities and use of equipment
  3. The concept of restraint and the use of bedrails

Speaker

Tracy Nowicki is employed as a Clinical Nurse Consultant in the Principle Items Equipment Service at a Major Public Hospital in Queensland. Tracy has acquired extensive clinical expertise and management knowledge whilst working across a number of clinical specialties. A significant focus of her current role is to bring innovation to the development of a central equipment service so as to ensure optimal patient outcomes. Tracy is a highly evaluated speaker.

Very informative. Can't believe how long it took Australia to bring in Regulation, Guidelines and Standards.
