Description

This lecture defines Bariatrics & discusses the availability of surgical procedures to promote the health of a person who is obese. Stories of patients who are obese are told. Their traumatic experiences within the health system are described. Nurse’s prejudices and attitudes towards patients who are obese are discussed. Risk management strategies and appropriate selection of equipment to prevent the development of pressure ulcers are provided. Strategies to facilitate best practice nursing care for people who are obese are provided.

Speaker

Tracy Nowicki is employed as a Clinical Nurse Consultant in the Principle Items Equipment Service at a Major Public Hospital in Queensland. Tracy has acquired extensive clinical expertise and management knowledge whilst working across a number of clinical specialties. A significant focus of her current role is to bring innovation to the development of a central equipment service so as to ensure optimal patient outcomes. Tracy is a highly evaluated speaker.
