Patients with peripheral vascular disease (PVD) may experience a range of serious health problems, which can result in repeated hospitalisations, prolonged disability, poor quality of life, or sudden death. However, the disease can be poorly diagnosed and managed, and nurses are well placed to reduce poor outcomes associated with the disease. The many manifestations of PVD, its early detection and subsequent treatments require current knowledge and skills for better patient outcomes which are achievable through through ongoing education.
