This Ausmed Course is relevant to all healthcare professionals who care for individuals with type 1 and type 2 diabetes who require insulin.

Why it's needed:

Insulin is prescribed as replacement therapy for people with type 1 diabetes, and is used as a supplementary therapy in 24% of people with type 2 diabetes. It is classified by the Australian Commission on Quality and Safety in Health Care as high-risk medicine.

Regular review of the general principles that underlie the prescription and administration of insulin preparations for those with insulin-requiring diabetes mellitus is essential for competent nursing practice and the Quality Use of Medicines (QUM).

Purpose:
