Jared Cooney Horvath (PhD, MEd) is an expert in the field of educational neuroscience, with a focus on translating neuroscientific principles to enhance teaching and learning practices within the classroom. Jared has conducted research and lectured at Harvard University, Harvard Medical School, the University of Melbourne, and over 30 schools around Australia. Jared has published three books, over 30 research articles, and his work has been featured in numerous popular publications, including The Economist, WIRED, The New Yorker, New Scientist, and ABC’s Catalyst. Jared is a lecturer at the University of Melbourne, researcher at St. Vincent's Hospital in Melbourne, and currently serves as director of the Science of Learning Group: a team dedicated to bringing the latest in brain and behavioural researcher to teachers, students, and parents alike ( See Educator Profile

This resource was fascinating, I wasn't sure that I would gain very much from the onset however I feel that I have a fresh outlook and different perspective on how to 'pay attention', and store information, recall information and how to encourage others to think about the way they direct their attention. Number one thing that I have taken away from this lecture today: I am not as good at multitasking as I thought I was because we are not designed to multitask. I now understand the concept of the brain having to choose one piece of information over another and how it dumps information. Thank you for the wake up.

teach the why not the what what is going on, why this is important how to make deep memories bring memories out(recall) active recall strategies(put things away, talk about it) ask what is the info, answer, check the answer, put it back space out, longer and longer ways to increase attention every 10 15 mins to do games, stories, breaks, say someone name. pointing the important things break prediction anything dangerous, surprising, unknown follow body movement reading and listening are separate pathways
